Jashpur bypolls: Jogi asks Patel to field candidate

Says if party does not have any candidate then he can propose an apt one

Raipur, May 09, 2013

In what could be seen as direct interference in decision making affairs of Congress, Senior Congress legislator Ajit Jogi on Thursday wrote a warning letter to state Congress chief Nandkumar Patel asking him either to field an appropriate candidate for Jashpur municipal council bypolls or allow him (Jogi) to put forward a suitable name.

Jogi is said to be upset with Patel’s negligent attitude towards bypolls for vacant seat of corporator in Jashpur municipal council slated to be held on May 24. The seat fell vacant following demise of corporator Shatrunjay Singh Judeo who was son of Bilaspur MP Dilip Singh Judeo.

Shatrunjay died two months back. In his letter, Jogi wrote wrong message would go to public if the party would not field any candidate for the vacant seat. He reminded that the party had not fielded any candidate even during previous polls for particular seat against Shatrunjay.

The party leadership is said to be shocked by Jogi’s letter. The anti-Jogi factions have deducted an inference that by writing a letter to Patel and making its public, Jogi had indirectly tried to convey message that the party leadership was not serious towards civic body bypolls.

According to Jogi’s opponents, the party always welcomes suggestions and objections but such things should not be aired in public.

Jogi’s letter is also seen as an alarm bell for his opponents who know that he would become more aggressive with nearing polls.

Sources close to Jogi accept that the former chief minister had specific plans for elections. After taking trials of robotic legs and throwing a birthday party to display power, Jogi met party supremo Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi to discuss about his role in polls, said sources.

Even the party high command acknowledges importance of Jogi in Chhattisgarh and hence is said to be planning to assign him a challenging task during elections, they added.
