CG govt copied Centre’s food security bill: Cong

Raipur, July 31, 2013

Congress on Wednesday ridiculed chief minister Raman Singh for asking Centre to adopt Chhattisgarh’s Food Security Act as role model and said the former was making such demand due to fear of being exposed.

“Ironically, the state government first copied Centre’s food security bill and then wanted the latter to adopt it. The UPA government had actually prepared draft on food security bill in 2011. The Raman Singh government simply copied it and hastily tabled and passed in Vidhan Sabha to take false credit,” said Congress spokesperson Sushil Anand Shukla.

He said the Centre’s Food Security Act would expose the BJP government’s prevarication. “The state government, which boasts of providing rice at the rate of Rs two per kg to poor, is deceiving people. The actual cost of this rice is Rs 16 per kg out of which the Centre incurs Rs 13, the beneficiaries incur Rs two and the state government shells out just Re 1,” Shukla said.

He said public distribution system (PDS) was being implemented by Centre through state governments for past thirty years and Chhattisgarh government had added no significant factor in the system that could be adopted as role model in the country.
