Cong defends Mahant, says CM debased state politics

Raipur, July 01, 2013

Defending its acting PCC president Charandas Mahant for his recent caustic remark against ADG (naxal operations) RK Vij and ADG (Intelligence) Mukesh Gupta, state Congress on Monday flayed chief minister Raman Singh for terming Mahant’s statement as below par and said the CM himself had debased state politics by using brahmastra in Darbha.

“The CM gives priority his own security and ignores security of opposition’s elected public representatives and common mass. The law and order in the state is in haywire. About half of Chhattisgarh lacks peace and development. The government has failed to penetrate in major parts of the state. Naxals have expanded and reached near capital city. Still the government is watching everything as a silent spectator. In this backdrop, how come the CM is teaching lesson to our state president,” asked Congress spokesperson Shailesh Nitin Trivedi.

He alleged that the CM was deceiving people on pretext of vikas yatra. “The BJP government also intends to increase vote bank by distributing bicycles, laptops, cow, goats, smart cards, rice at economical rate, etc,” he added.

He said the government was further responsible for rise in liquor consumption and fall in education-level. “Ironically, the CM is talking of ethics and high standard in politics after selling water, forests and lands of the state,” he charged.

“The CM was expected to resign after naxal attack on Congress parivartan yatra convoy on May 25, 2013 but instead he is advising Mahant to play fair politics. This is objectionable. He should look at his own conduct first,” he said.
