No assurance from govt on kalash yatra security: Vora

Raipur, July 04, 2013

AICC treasurer Motilal Vora on Thursday said state government had not given any assurance to Congress pertaining to security of its kalash yatra. “I am sure the government will not commit May 25 mistake and provide security to our kalash yatra, although it has not given any assurance about it,” said Vora while talking to scribes at Congress Bhawan before leaving for Rajim to kick start first phase of the yatra.

He clarified that the party did not aim to play vote politics through kalash yatra.

Further, rubbishing out the reports that party MLA Ajit Jogi was not participating in kalash yatra because he did not get invitation from the state unit Vora said Jogi met him in New Delhi the other day and expressed his inability to attend the yatra due to poor health conditions. When indicated that Jogi stalwarts too had mustered in national capital, he said there was no ban on anyone’s Delhi visit.

On growing factionalism in Congress Vora said the party had neither been divided in past, nor would be in future. “We are very well united and no one should doubt about it,” he added.

When pointed that the party lost one of the two recent bypolls due to factionalism Vora said he would ask acting PCC chief Charandas Mahant to go through the report and tell him actual scenario.

Asked how the party claimed in its Thursday advertisement on kalash yatra that state intelligence department did not provide security to parivartan yatra convoy despite being aware of naxal movement in Darbha region when national investigation agency (NIA) had not completed its probe he said the advertisement was not official and the party had nothing to do with it.

“I do not know anything about this advertisement. Let me first talk to Mahant about it and then we will decided what action should be taken,” he said.

Nobel Verma joins Congress

Former state president of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and ex-MLA Nobel Verma on Thursday joined Congress. He was accompanied by NCP spokesperson Ajay Mishra and state president of Nationalist Mahila Congress Shakuntala Sahu who too joined Congress. The trio filled Congress membership form before AICC treasurer Motilal Vora.
