Mahant completes one month as PCC chief

Raipur, July 02, 2013

Union minister of state Charandas Mahant on Tuesday completed one month as PCC president. The Congress stalwarts feel that in one month Mahant has succeeded in proving his selection as appropriate for the top post of state unit when the party was in its lowest spirit after naxal attack on its parivartan yatra convoy at Jiram valley in Darbha region on May 25, 2013.

After assuming office of the PCC chief Mahant had announced to first mop tears of the partymen who were deep anguish after May 25 incident. He then focussed in beefing up the party by taking marathon meetings of state, district and block units and touring extensively in different parts of the state.

The Congress insiders say that Mahant’s attempts to ensure participation of all – from office-bearers of state, district and blocks to legislators, ex-MLAs, public representatives conveys broader message in the party that he has plans for everybody.

His announcement to give respectable post in the organisation to those partymen who survived in May 25-naxal attack also indicates that he is ready to reward the dedicated and hardworking workers, they added.

His supports say that instead of taking instant political advantage of May 25 incident Mahant established long-term goals for the party. His mantra of discipline and dedication for party was welcomed by workers, they said.

He conceptualised host of events including kalash yatra, quit Chhattisgarh movement against state government in August, etc that shows he want to use both sympathy card as well as attack the government aggressively, they said.

By announcing to restart parivartan yatra from Bastar he has shown grit that the party will continue its activities in the naxal-infested regions despite May 25 incident, they added.
