Congress on Saturday said the state visit of national
human rights commission (NHRC) members had exposed BJP government’s cruel face.
“The government should be ashamed of NHRC’s remarks related to violation of
human rights in Chhattisgarh,” said PCC chief Nandkumar Patel and CLP leader
Ravindra Choubey.
“The NHRC has given serious statement that
the government does not take cognisance of majority of human rights violation cases.
This proves that the government hides all such cases using its influence, hence
no action is taken on them,” they said.
They said the commission’s directive to
the government to give compensation to affected people related to about one
dozen cases confirm that everything was not all right in the state.
They said the compensation amount in fake
encounter cases should be recovered from the guilty persons besides taking
legal action against them. They indicated that majority innocents killed in
fake encounter cases were tribals. They also demanded justice for victims of hysterectomy.
“Large number of complaints to NHRC
apparently exposes the government’s misdeeds,” they said.
“The commission has also taken into
cognisance the irregularities in public distribution system (PDS) which the
government claims as a best system,” they indicated.
“The Congress is really concerned over rising
crime and fake encounters in the state and it is happening because the
government is adopting autocratic attitude,” they said.
