Raipur, April 12, 2013
Congress on Friday alleged that government intended to
benefit GMR – the organiser of two IPL matches at Raipur, by exempting tax on tickets. “It is
injustice to sports lovers. The government must instantly refund 50% ticket
amount to the people,” said Congress business cell president Kanhaiyya Agrawal.
Pointing that the government picked wrong
time to announce tax exemption on IPL tickets, Agrawal said the declaration
came when 95% of the tickets were already sold.
“If tax relief had been given from the
beginning, the people had got tickets at considerably low rate,” he said.
“The government has already spent Rs 34
crore on preparation of IPL events. It will also incur entire arrangement
expenditure of two T20 matches, but profit will be earned by GMR,” he said
demanding registration of case against organising company if refuses to return
50% of ticket amount.
The chief Congress spokesperson Shailesh
Nitin Trivedi lashed the government for giving tax benefit to GMR instead of
announcing pending Rs 270 paddy bonus to farmers and regularising
Shikshakarmis.
