Raipur, April 01, 2013
The Youth Congress (YC) has asked the district
administration to shift liquor shops being operated in city to outskirts. In
this connection, the YC members - led by Raipur North MLA Kuldeep Juneja, their
national general secretary Vikas Upadhyay and their Raipur North assembly
Shiekh Mushir, wore a blindfold and submitted a memorandum to from Collector
Siddhartha Komal Pardeshi on Monday.
Pointing that liquor shops in Raipur were
located near schools, colleges, temples, hospitals, mosques and densely
populated areas, Mushir said the people face inconvenience due to such shops
and hence the district administration should quickly shift them out of the
city.
He also objected over licence being
obtained by liquor contractors on the name of females.
“The liquor contractors are misusing names
of females by mentioning them as partners in the liquor shops and earning huge
bucks. We strongly condemn such contractors and have urged the Collector to
take stern action against them,” he said.
He informed that the YC would continue its
movement against liquor shops in phased manner. In first phase, it submitted
memorandum to Collector. In second phase, it will demonstrate before liquor
shops after appealing the liquor contractors in written to shift their shops
out of city. In the third phase, it will stage dharna before the liquor shops
while in the fourth its members will lock the liquor shops.
NSUI demands blanket ban on liquor sale
The NSUI too submitted memorandum to the
Collector during the latter’s jandarshan and demanded blanket ban on liquor
sale. In the memorandum, the NSUI pointed that several liquor shops in the city
were being operated in violation of excise rules.
The organisation’s former
state president Sanjeev Shukla said the despite chief minister Raman Singh’s
promise to people regarding prohibition of liquor sale, the government has not
closed any of the liquor shops by far.
