Demands to ban liquor service in stadium’s corporate box

Raipur, April 20, 2013

Congress has asked government to return entertainment tax amount charged on IPL tickets to sports lovers. The party has also demanded prohibition of liquor service in stadium’s corporate box. In this connection, a delegation of Congress members led by party’s business cell president Kanhaiyya Agrawal has submitted a memorandum to excise commissioner RS Vishwakarma.
“By announcing tax exemption on IPL tickets, the government is giving massive benefit to GMR – the organiser of two IPL matches at Raipur that will be held on April 28 and May 1. The government will be spending Rs 40 crore in two IPL matches while the GMR will earn profit of Rs 100 crore,” Agrawal said.
He pointed that while the lowest tickets rates for IPL matches in Maharashtra, West Bengal, Karnataka and Bihar were Rs 200-250, the rates in Chhattisgarh was Rs 500 despite exemption of entertainment tax.
