Unexpected argument between existing and former chief spokespersons of Congress marred party’s tribute programme to country’s first Prime Minister Pt Jawahar Lal Nehru organised on the occasion of his birth anniversary at Congress Bahwan on Monday. PCC president Nandkumar Patel somewhat tried to assuage the anger of the two leaders but failed to generate enthusiasm among with workers who attended the programme.
The argument began when party’s ex-chief spokesperson and PCC’s existing permanent invitee member Rajendra Tiwari strongly raised his objection over Congress media cell chairman Shailesh Nitin Trivedi’s speech in which the latter had quoted Nehru’s slogan – aaram haram hai.
Tiwari said the party wanted to do hard work to take rest in future hence the slogan inappropriate and unwarranted.
But when former PCC president Dhanendra Sahu too endorsed Trivedi during his address to the workers, Tiwari fumed and stood up to reply in same brusque tone, but was stopped by Patel.
Later, Patel in his address said both Trivedi and Tiwari were correct in their opinions but felt the current time for the party was to unite, expand and fight strongly against BJP government to win the next Vidhan Sabha elections.
Unconvinced by Patel’s mollifying speech, Tiwari said he was ready to prove his point if given another thirty minutes to speak but Patel did not allow him.
Surprised by Tiwari’s belligerent tone, the workers seemed in haste to leave the programme early.
The programme was attended by Satyanarayan Sharma, PCC general secretary Ramesh Warlyani, DCC Raipur City president Inderchand Dhariwal, Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak, Raipur North MLA Kuldeep Juneja, Kalpana Patel and others party workers.
