The Congress has claimed that the fire victims of Bairon Bazar on Tuesday showed black flags to PWD Minister Brijmohan Agrawal when he reached their locality to distribute cheques of Rs 10000 to them as first installment of compensation package. The DCC Raipur City president Inderchand Dhariwal alleged that the minister was trying to pose sympathy towards the fire victims by handing them cheques which were actually supposed to be distributed by Collector Dr Rohit Yadav.
“The fire victims bluntly refused receive cheques from the minister protesting the government’s indifference towards them. On November 6, when fire destroyed sixteen hutments, none of the government representative – neither any minister nor official reached the incidental spot to take stock of the situation and meet the victims. The affected ones were already fuming with the government’s attitude,” said Dhariwal.
“Even after the incident, the government did not announce any compensation package for the victims. It was Congress which accompanied the victims to gherao the Collector and mount pressure on him to announce Rs two lakh compensation for them and immediate release of Rs ten thousand as first installment of the aid for each affected family. The Collector accepted our demand and was scheduled to distribute cheques of Rs 10000 to the victims on Tuesday evening but the minister stepped in and had to face the public ire,” Dhariwal added.
