Rajya Sabha MP and AICC treasurer Motilal Vora has demanded government jobs for at least one family member of each victim of Balod eye camp. In this connection, he has written a letter to Chief Minister Raman Singh on Tuesday urging him to simultaneously provide adequate financial assistance to the victims.
“The Rs 50000-package is also not sufficient to compensate the loss the victims have incurred. Instead they should get Rs two lakh each. In addition, the government should ensure treatment of the victims in best facilitated eye hospitals of the country at its cost,” Vora recommended.
He said the negligent attitude of the organisers resulted in eyesight loss of about 50 patients. Pointing out towards a similar incident that occurred in Rajnandgaon where seven patients lost their eyesight after undergoing cataract operations in a private eye camp, Vora said the government should quickly take cognisance of the matter and fix responsibility.
He informed that the Rajnandgaon eye camp organisers charged Rs 3000 from each eye patient. “In both Balod and Rajnandgaon incidents, patients lost their eyesight. Now, it is government’s responsibility to provide suitable relief package to the victims,” he said.
