PKC to raise farmers’ issues through dharnas

Raipur, November 15, 2011

The Pradesh Kisan Congress (PKC) has decided to raise farmers’ issues through dharnas and protest movements across the state. The decision was taken during the PKC meeting that held in presence of organisation’s state convenor Digvijay Singh Kridutt and PCC president Nandkumar Patel at Congress Bhawan on Tuesday.
Kridutt said the Raman Singh government had deceived farmers and had not fulfilled its promise of disbursing bonus of Rs 270 per quintal.
“The BJP had included Rs 270 bonus in its election manifesto in 2008. But the farmers received Rs 220 bonus in 2008-09, Rs 50 in 2009-10 and Rs 50 in 2010-11. In the current financial year, they have not received any bonus. Hence, in past four years the farmers have received the total of Rs 320 bonus and are yet to get Rs 760 bonus against per quintal of their paddy,” Kridutt said.
“The farmers have incurred huge loss this year due to floods. They are indebted but the government is apathetic towards them. The government is not even providing free electricity up to 5 HP for irrigation purpose as it had promised during 2008 Assembly polls,” he said.
Considering various issues of farmers, Kridutt and PKC office-bearers will intensely conduct statewide tour and stage dharnas and launch protest movements against the government.
To make the agitations successful, Kridutt has also delegated the job of district incharges to the office-bearers. On Tuesday’s meeting, he announced district incharges of 12 districts. The incharges of remaining districts would be announced soon, he said.
The PKC general secretary Diveyesh Chandrakar will be Raipur district incharge, vice president Parmanand Adil – Mahasamund, Kawardha, Rajnandgaon incharge, spokesperson Alok Pandey – Durg, Bilaspur, Jagdalpur, general secretary Suresh Patle – Kanker, general secretary Sewak Ram Tarak – Balod, general secretary and spokesperson Jitendra Narsingh Rana – Sarguja, Koria and Saurabh Jain – Dantewada.
