Cong agitation against govt on tribal issues soon: Hariprasada

Says his party would continue to protest government’s anti-people policies

Leaves for two-day Bastar tour along with Patel, Mahant & Choubey to join the duo at Kanker

Raipur, November 10, 2011

The state Congress incharge BK Hariprasada has said that his party would soon launch aggressive protest movement against the government on tribal issues. Hariprasada who reached Raipur on Thursday evening expressed these words while talking to media persons before leaving for Kanker on his two-day Bastar tour along with PCC president Nandkumar Patel. Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Processing Charandas Mahant and CLP leader Ravindra Choubey also joined the two leaders at Kanker at 8 pm on Thursday night. The objective of these leaders to tour Bastar is not only to attend different party programmes and workers’ meetings but also to mobilise the partymen for upcoming agitations.
The four leaders were earlier scheduled to leave the state capital for Bastar jointly. However, owing to changed schedules of Mahant and Choubey, Hariprasada and Patel headed towards Kanker. On Thursday, while Mahant toured Dhamtari, Choubey travelled Durg, Balod and Dhamtari before joining Hariprasada and Patel at Kanker to interact with the workers in the local rest house at 8 pm. Thereafter, the four left for Jagdalpur.
The PCC general secretary and Bastar incharge Ramesh Warlyani will join the Congress team at Jagdalpur on Friday.
This high-level Congress team will discuss with the local leaders and workers about the party’s future plans to target the government on different issues. The team will ask the district and block level office-bearers to frequently organise rallies and meetings to inform public about bad governance of the BJP government.
The team also aims to increase its vote bank by intensifying its activities in the tribal region. Bastar division was once the Congress bastion and the tribals had always put faith on the party during polls. But the BJP gradually made the inroads in this region and succeeded in shifting the tribal loyalty towards it during crucial elections times.
The BJP has not only won Bastar Lok Sabha seat but also hold 11 out of 12 Vidhan Sabha seats, although in some constituencies it won by merely over few hundred votes. Considering the tough challenge given by the Congress candidates to the opponent BJPians in the previous Assembly elections, the party hopes to get back its strength by reviving its relation with the locals.
The party will put forwards its senior tribal leaders Arvind Netam, Mahendra Karma, MLA Kawasi Lakhma and Ganga Potai to bridge the gap between Congress and public.
In December, the party again plans to organise rallies and meetings in Sarguja division. Union Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh has already announced that he would tour Sarguja on December 17 and 18. Considering Ramesh’s Sarguja visit, the party is likely prepare schedule so that it could take benefit of the presence of union minister in its meetings and rallies.
