Cong: RMC’s road widening parameters not uniform

Raipur, November 22, 2011

The Congress has alleged that the RMC was not adopting uniform parameters for its road widening projects. “It is the municipal’s habit to adopt different standards in its road widening works which is eventually giving extra-financial jolt to the people whose lands are being acquired for the projects,” said the DCC Raipur City president Inderchand Dhariwal and other Congress leaders after finding the road widths on either side of the median of Santoshi Nagar were different on Tuesday. The Congress leaders received complaints from the locals of Santoshi Nagar that the municipal was acquiring additional five feet on the left side of the road. The Congmen reached the spot along with the municipal officials on Tuesday and measured the road widths on both sides of the median.
“The road space on the right side of the median is 40 feet and then additional five feet has been acquired for canal. The total width of the road on right side of the median is 45 feet. Now, on the left side of the median the RMC wants to acquire 50 feet wide space of which it would again leave five feet for canal. Why the RMC wants to acquire extra five feet space. This is injustice to the people having shops and houses on the left side of the road,” Dhariwal said.
“In fact, there is no need to construct another canal on the left side. The proposed canal on the right side is six feet deep and it can easily drain excess water during rains provided it is constructed with proper gradient,” Dhariwal said.
The Congress leaders demanded from the municipal to immediately stop acquisition of extra five feet space on the left side of the road.
