The leader of opposition in state Assembly Ravindra Choubey has alleged that the government intentionally delays key decisions related to farmers. “Huge irregularities prevail in paddy procurement system. The Chief Minister too has conceded about irregularities during the recently held Collectors’ conference. Still the government has not taken any step in favour of the farmers,” Choubey said who also wrote a letter to the CM in this connection on Wednesday.
“Paddy procurement in many districts has stopped due to scarce storage space at the centres. There is no transportation facility at procurement centres to carry the paddy to godowns. As a result, procurement has either slowed down or stopped in many areas. There are long queues of farmers waiting outside procurement centres with their paddy. The farmers wait for their turn and spend several nights outside procurement centres. Some farmers get frustrated and sell their paddy to the middlemen. Surprisingly, the government remains insensitive towards farmers’ problems,” Choubey said.
He urged the CM to promptly direct the officials to organise the procurement procedures so that the farmers may not face inconvenience.
