Pt Ravishankar Shukla University (RSU) Karmachari Sangh has alleged that the varsity administration was misleading government on union’s indefinite strike. The sangh president Shravan Singh Thakur on Tuesday asserted that the employees were undeterred by Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA) by the varsity on them and would continue their strike till their demands are met.
“Our demands are not new. We are requesting to the RSU administration to fulfill our demands for the past two years but it has put deaf ear. Now, when we have started our indefinite strike after giving prior notice, the varsity is taking repressive action against us by imposing ESMA. However, we will not buckle down as we have unanimously decided to continue our strike,” Thakur said.
Terming varsity’s move as provocative, Thakur said, “When we sat on hunger strike, the varsity’s executive council (EC) accepted out demand of arrear distribution after government’s approval. But suddenly, the RSU took a U-turn and refused to give arrears on pretext of ‘no clear order’ from the government. The obstinacy of the varsity ultimately compelled us to go on strike again.”
He further charged that the RSU administration was playing with the emotions of the employees. “A coordination committee was constituted by the EC to consider other demands of the union but the council member heading it held reservations against the employees and hence we doubt that he would not be impartial in taking any decision,” he said.
Thakur clarified that the sangh had never violated any rules of the varsity during strike and had always sat on strike in favour of their genuine demands. He urged the RSU administration to revoke ESMA imposed on the employees and fulfill their demands.
