Strongly condemning the arrest of agitating Shikshakarmis the PCC president Nandkumar Patel says that the government is adopting autocratic attitude towards them. “By imposing Essential Service Maintenance Act (ESMA) on Shikshakarmis the government wanted to trample their democratically peaceful protest movement,” Patel said.
He reminded the BJP that it had promised of merger and at par facilities to the Shikshakarmis in its election manifesto in 2003 Assembly elections.
“At that time, Chief Minister Raman Singh was BJP state president while Nandkumar Sai was leader of the opposition at state Assembly. Both Singh and Sai had supported the demands of Shikshakarmis. But when the BJP came into power, Singh’s took a U-turn and refused to keep his promise,” Patel said.
He said the government could not rub its hands from the responsibility towards Shikshakarmis by merely accepting some of their demands and changing the names of their posts and felt that the genuine demands of the agitators should be fulfilled.
While objecting over the government action against Shikshakarmis, the Youth Congress (YC) on Monday evening burnt the CM’s effigy at Budhatalab chowk.
Later, the president of YC Lok Sabha Raipur Vinod Tiwari said the government had no right to take repressive action against the Shikshakarmis who were protesting democratically. “Ironically, the criminals are being spared and innocents like Shikshakarmis who make genuine demand are being maltreated,” charged Tiwari.
He demanded from the government to release the arrested Shikshakarmis and take back all the cases filed against them. He warned the government of taking the protest movement of Shikshakarmis to students and youths if it would not consider their demands quickly.
At Budhatalab chowk, Tiwari was accompanied by Indrajeet Singh, Ashish Dubey, Sunny Agrawal, Sameer Chouhan, Saket Vaidya, Khilesh Dewangan, Amit Tiwari, Prashant Pareda, Raja Bhatta, Rahul Dev, Gulzeb Ahmed, Sandeep Yadu, etc.
