Congress on Saturday asked the government to stop undeclared power cuts
on pretext of maintenance and repairing works. “This is frustrating. People are
irked of frequent power cuts. It is an irony that despite government’s claims that
Chhattisgarh is a power surplus state the people are compelled to face power
outage,” said Congress spokesperson Mahendra Chhabda.
“The power
consumers are suffering due to incapability and mismanagement of Chhattisgarh
state power distribution company limited (CSPDCL) which has become graft hub,”
he added.
“Ironically,
chief minister Raman Singh himself is holding energy department for the past
nine and a half years but has never taken initiative to check corruption in
CSPDCL,” he said.
He also
slammed CSPDCL for proposing power tariff hike to Chhattisgarh state
electricity regulatory commission (CSERC). He alleged that the company did it
on government’s directives.
He said the
proposed power tariff hike proved that the government was least bothered about
common people, especially farmers.
