DGP meets Choubey, talks over security of Congress MLAs

Raipur, June 03, 2013

DGP Ramnivas on Monday met leader of opposition at state assembly Ravindra Choubey at latter’s residence and reportedly discussed over security of Congress legislators in wake of Darbha incident.

According to information, he is said to have assured Choubey that the state government would provide adequate security to Congress MLAs as desired and needed.

Notably, the PCC office-bearers, in their June 2 meeting at Congress Bhawan, had expressed their ire over no security being provided to parivartan yatra and held BJP government responsible for May 25 naxal attack. They also felt that the ruling party ceased to remain in power and must step down forthwith.

Similarly, in the Congress legislators’ party (CLP) meeting convened by Choubey at his residence on June 2, the MLAs felt that since the BJP government was ignoring their security and was responsible for May 25 incident, they would tender their resignation and demand President’s rule in state.

The top brasses in state administration, who are closely following developments in state Congress after May 25, reportedly came into action instantly and send DGP Ramnivas to convince Choubey pertaining to provision of security to opposition MLAs.

Sources informed that the government is in no mood to face ignominy again on security issue after naxal attack on Congmen and therefore leaving no stone unturned in persuading the principal opposition to drop the idea of mass resignation of its MLAs. By sending Ramnivas, the government has tried to convey a broader message to Congress that it is committed to provide sufficient security to the opposition MLAs.
