The
faction-ridden Congress is embarrassed again as Ajit Jogi faction has decided
to field its candidate as independent in Keshkal bypoll (for post of nagar
panchayat president) slated to be held on June 24. The Jogi faction resorted to
this rebellious decision after the party leadership categorically refused to
give ticket to its candidate.
In this connection, Jogi
supporters from Keshkal on Thursday tried to convince acting PCC president
Charandas Mahant at Raipur that their candidate deserved ticket but the latter replied
that the party had already nominated candidate on recommendations of poll
observer Abdul Hameed Hayat and DCC Kondagaon chief Shankar Sodhi and no change
would be made in the last minute.
After Mahant’s refusal,
the Jogi supporters urged Hayat and PCC genera secretary Subhash Sharma to
advocate for their candidate but in vain.
According to information,
Jogi faction was hoping that the party would give ticket to its candidate –
Saina Memon as she had filed nominations in presence of Sodhi. However, the
Jogi faction got infuriated when it saw Mamta Chandrakar’s name in B-form.
The Jogi faction has
reportedly conveyed message to the party that it would filed Memon as an
independent candidate in the bypoll.
It is learnt that the
party is taking the matter seriously and would complain about it to the state
incharge BK Hariprasada and high command if the Jogi faction does withdraws
Memon’s candidature before the bypoll.
The Congress, which is attempting
to unite its leaders before assembly polls, is said to be severely upset with
rebellious activities of Jogi faction. While Mahant has clearly stated that
factionalism and any type of indiscipline would not be tolerated in the party, the
workers are waiting with bated breath to see what he would do if Jogi camp
ignores his warning and fields an independent candidate in Keshkal bypoll.
