Jogi dares Mahant to win Bagbahra, Keshkal bypolls

Raipur, June 20, 2013

Alienated Congress MLA Ajit Jogi on Thursday gave indirect challenge to acting PCC president Charandas Mahant to prove his eligibility for top post of the state unit by winning upcoming Bagbahra and Keshkal bypolls. Jogi dared Mahant by writing him letter and urging him to lead the campaigns for the two bypolls and play crucial role in defeating BJP.

Using sarcastic tone in the letter Jogi wrote that he learnt about the two bypolls from media reports and felt that Mahant, after holding the post of acting PCC chief in wake of Darbha incident, would be the most appropriate person to lead the workers in the hustings and bring landslide victory for the party in both byelections.

Jogi asked Mahant to campaign for at least two days in each bypoll. He has also sent a copy of the letter to Chhattisgarh Congress incharge BK Hariprasada.

Jogi wrote letter to Mahant a day after the latter’s warning that he would take stern action against those who would rebel and work against party’s official candidate in Keshkal bypoll.

Notably, Jogi’s staunch supporter Amit Memon and others wanted to field Saina Memon in Keshkal bypoll but the party gave ticket to Mamta Chandrakar in the last minute. Irked by party’s decision, the Jogi faction decided to field Saina Memon as independent candidate in the byelection.

While Jogi faction is confident that its candidate Saina Memon would comfortably win the bypoll, Jogi, by writing letter to Mahant and sending its copy to Hariprasada, has tried to mount pressure on the duo to prove their capability to organisation and the high command by posting heavy victory for party.

Four Jogi supporters terminated
Congress on Thursday terminated four staunch supporters of senior party legislator Ajit Jogi for rebelling and working against party’s official candidate in Keshkal bypoll.

The decision was taken on recommendation of the executive body of Block Congress Committee (BCC) Keshkal, which in its June 17 meeting, felt that the four rebels should be terminated from the primary membership of the party for six years.

The four rebels are Amin Memon, Roshan Jameer Khan, Ashfaq Ahmed Quraishi and Jeetendra Rajak.
