The mortal remains of former union minister and veteran Congress leader
Vidya Charan Shukla was finally cremated at his farm house cum residence Radheshyam
Bhawan on Wednesday.
The final
rituals of Shukla’s cremation were performed by his grandson Vinayak Pandey in
presence of union minister of state for home department RPN Singh, CM Raman
Singh, Vidhan Sabha speaker Dharamlal Kaushik, PWD minister Brijmohan Agrawal, AICC
treasurer Motilal Vora, Chhattisgarh Congress incharge BK Hariprasada, AICC general
secretary Digvijay Singh, acting PCC chief Charandas Mahant, CLP leader
Ravindra Choubey, Mirza Irshad Baig and Suresh Pachouri. Despite heavy showers,
large number of Congress workers, BJPians, representatives of several political
parties, Raipurians and people from different parts of state were also present
on the occasion.
Shukla’s
body was brought to Raipur from New Delhi at night on June 11 via special
chartered plane. His body was then kept in his Budhapara-based residence Shukla
Bhawan. On Tuesday morning, several Congress leaders, party workers and his
supporters reached Shukla Bhawan and paid him tribute.
Later,
his body was brought to Congress Bhawan for darshan at about 10 am. Massive
crowd thronged Congress Bhawan to pay tribute to the veteran leader who had
received bullet injuries during naxal attack on Congress parivartan yatra at
Jiram valley in Darbha region on May 25 but eventually succumbed after
struggling for life for 16 days.
