Congress has decided to launch quit Chhattisgarh movement on August 9,
2013. On that day the party will ask the BJP government to step down for
failing to meet public expectations.
“Our party
had launched quit India
movement against Britishers on August 9, 1942. We will launch quit Chhattisgarh
movement against the BJP government,” said union minister of state and acting
PCC president Charandas Mahant while talking to media persons after holding
meeting of district and block Congress heads at party’s Gandhi maidan-based
state office on Tuesday.
He informed that it would be a day-long agitation on
August 9 and thereafter the party would continue it at divisional-level.
He further informed that parivartan yatra will restart
in August 2013. He said the decision was taken considering heavy rains and peak
farming season in July. He said the date of the yatra would be jointly
finalised by him, CLP leader Ravindra Choubey and party’s programme coordinator
Bhupesh Baghel.
He said the party would intensify its activities from June
25 with a divisional-level tribute programme for its deceased leaders in
Jagdalpur. On June 24, the 13th day ritual of late Vidya Charan
Shukla will be performed after his death. Mahant said the party would not do
any activity till that date. “Considering no-action period for the party from
May 25 to June 24, we have taken a decision to expedite our activities in
coming days,” he added.
He said May 25 incident was not only heartrending but
also frightening. “The true tribute to deceased leaders will only be our
victory in assembly polls and we will do it unitedly,” he added.
He reiterated that his prime responsibilities are to
mop tears of partymen, strengthen the party and fulfil dreams of deceased leaders.
To a question, Mahant said his party did not want to take
political mileage from kalash yatra but merely intend to give tribute to all
the leaders who sacrificed their lives. He informed that the kalash yatra would
be taken out from four religious places – Rajim, Dongargarh, Dantewada and
Chandrapur.
He said his party wanted the government to make
martyrs’ memorial in memory of those who died on May 25-naxal attack. “The
Congress will also make memorial for each of the deceased leaders in his respective
hometown,” he added.
Asked why party MLA Ajit Jogi was not invited in any
of the meetings held on Monday (June 17) and Tuesday, Mahant said he would
himself invite the former when PCC’s working committee meeting would be
convened.
Cong likely to boycott Vidhan Sabha session in July
Raipur,
June 18, 2013
Congress is likely to boycott state assembly’ monsoon session slated to
start from July 15. Leader of Congress legislator’s party (CLP) Ravindra
Choubey on Tuesday said that the decision to attend or boycott Vidhan Sabha
session would be taken during meeting of party MLAs.
Terming May 25 incident as attack on democracy,
Choubey said if the government would not come up with satisfactory information
the principal opposition Congress could think of boycotting the monsoon
session.
Asked whether the Congress MLAs would also tender mass
resignation during monsoon session, he said the party could take tougher
decision than that.
He, however, added that the Congress legislators would
pay tribute to their deceased leaders in the House.
