Diggi still soft for naxals

Says talks only way to solve extremism in CG

Raipur, June 06, 2013

despite condemning May 25-naxal attack on Congress parivartan yatra AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh continued using soft tone towards Maoists by saying that in democracy not violence, but only talks can solve extremism in Chhattisgarh..

Singh, who was talking to scribes in Congress Bhawan on Thursday, said there was no place of violence in democracy and Congress would always oppose ideologies that promote violence.

“The Centre is sensitive, not weak. The naxals should shun violence because those who adopt this route face negative consequences in the end,” he said.

Holding the BPJ government responsible for ramification of Maoists in Chhattisgarh, he said the effective policies which the Congress had implemented for tribals were replaced by the saffron party.

Govt must have given security to Congmen

Singh said it was surprising that the government did not provide adequate security to Congress parivartan yatra despite getting information about May 25 yatra schedule in advance. He said as Jiram valley logically seemed safer place for naxals to lay ambush, the government was expected to press sufficient security personnel there.

Asking government to protect late Mahendra Karma’s family members he said they were not getting at par security as promised to them in wake of May 25 incident.

He further said the government should also provide security to all those Congress leaders whose name appeared in naxal letter. “If touts can get security under BJP regime then why deserved ones are being ignored,” he asked.

Salva judum went astray

On salva judum he said initially it was moving in the right direction but then went astray when the BJP government gave liberty to judum workers. “The conflict between tribals and government increased when the latter shifted villagers in salva judum camps and allowed naxals to take control of empty villages,” he said.

CM deceiving people

Pointing that whenever Chhattisgarh had witnessed major naxal incident, chief minister Raman Singh has announced of waging decisive war against them, he said the CM’s declarations never turned into action and always proved to be deception.

He said the CM should tell how his government managed to conduct over 70% polling in naxal-infested regions despite naxal announcement of boycotting elections.

He asked when Maoists’ shrunk in Maharashtra and were wiped out by greyhound forces in Andhra Pradesh then how come they were flourishing in Chhattisgarh that has received paramilitary forces double of its demand.
He alleged that the Chhattisgarh became naxal hub because the CM allowed them to do what they want and in return wanted them to help his party winning elections.

According to Gill CM incapable of dealing naxalism

Quoting former Punjab DGP KPS Gill’s statement that the Chhattisgarh government asked him to sit and take salary when Centre sent him to the tribal state as an advisor to deal naxal problem in 2006, he said during Gill’s Bastar visit the junior officials had to face ire of their bosses for speaking to the former.
Singh said Gill even went on to say that the CM was not capable of dealing naxalism.

No comment on conspiracy talks

On conspiracy talks behind May 25-naxal attack he said he would not comment till report of national investigation agency (NIA) comes.

He, however, said the NIA must also investigate why naxals targeted Nandkumar Patel’s son Dinesh when he had not done any harm to them. “One can understand that the naxals attacked Mahendra Karma and Nandkumar Patel because the former had led salva judum movement and the latter was PCC chief, but what was Dinesh’s fault,” he asked.

Advocates for NCTC

Lashing at Chhattisgarh government for opposing national counter-terrorism centre (NCTC) he said it would rather be helpful for naxal-infested states where Maoists’ movement could be quickly be known by sharing of intelligence.

Objects over HM’s remark

Objecting over home minister Nankiram Kanwar’s remark that Congress was habitual of playing politics over its dead leaders, Singh termed HM’s statement as intolerable and asked the CM condemn it.

I do not give free advice

When pointed towards Congress MLA Ajit Jogi’s statement that the state Congress did not need any outsider to win polls – an evident indicator that he was not needed in Chhattisgarh, he said he never give free advice and would come to Chhattisgarh only when he would get invitation.

When indicated that his own partymen opposed his Chhattisgarh visit he said the resistance would have definitely come from BJP and naxals.

On party’s plans to continue parivartan yatra, he said he had already expressed his desire to participate in public rally in Keshloor under the yatra.

Sen is not a Maoist

Asked his take over Gujarat CM Narendra Modi’s attack on Centre regarding appointment of naxal sympathiser Dr Binayak Sen as a member of planning commission, Singh said Sen was not a Maoists and he had been inducted in commission due his experience in rural belts as a medical expert.

Is Advani still a PM contender?

On veteran BJP leader LK Advani’s efforts to promote Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan against Modi, Singh said first Advani should clarify whether he was still aspiring to become PM or not.
On Swami Ramdev’s recent remark in favour of Modi and against Congress-led UPA government Singh said the former did not deserve any comment.

President’s rule cannot be imposed in CG

On demand of President’s rule in Chhattisgarh by state Congress he said such possibilities were considered only during constitutional breakdown but in state nothing of that level had happened. He however termed May 25 incident as serious.
