In wake of
former union minister and veteran party leader Vidya Charan Shukla’s demise the
Congress is likely to extend the date to restart parivartan yatra.
The party had just recently
decided to commence the yatra again from Keshloor on June 16 after its national
vice president Rahul Gandhi approved the date by holding talks with acting PCC
president Charandas Mahant, CLP leader Ravindra Choubey, party supremo Sonia
Gandhi’s political advisor Ahmed Patel, AICC media chairman Janardan Dwivedi
and Chhattisgarh Congress incharge BK Hariprasada.
Gandhi had also accepted
Mahant’s invitation to attend concluding public rally of the yatra in
Jagdalpur.
According to information,
the new date to restart yatra will be decided by Rahul Gandhi again when Mahant,
alongwith district Congress heads of Bastar division, will meet the former at
New Delhi on Friday.
Sources said the party
wanted to commence the yatra quickly to convey message to the tribals that its
leaders sacrificed their lives in an attempt to bring back peace and democracy
in Bastar.
Mahant is also said to
discuss with AICC treasurer Motilal Vora and Hariprasada about yatra date in New Delhi.
The yatra came to halt
when naxals attacked convoy of Congress leaders while they were heading to
Darbha from Sukma at Jiram valley on May 25, 2013.
It was yatra’s fourth phase under which
the party was yet to cover 11 assembly constituencies which were Chitrakot,
Narayanpur, Kondagaon, Keshkal, Kanker, Antagarh, Bhanupratappur,
Doundi-Lohara, Mohla Manpur, Khujji, Dongargaon. In the fifth phase, the party
was scheduled to cover 20 Vidhan Sabha areas.
The state Congress is
likely to release fresh schedules of the yatra after its three meetings on June
17 and 18.
