Union minister of state and acting PCC president Charandas Mahant met
party supremo Sonia Gandhi and union home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde at New Delhi on Friday.
In
the meeting, Mahant reportedly extended his gratitude to Gandhi for entrusting top
job of state Congress to him in wake of May 25-naxal attack on party’s
partivartan yatra and assured to meet her expectations.
Mahant
further informed Gandhi about May 25 incident in detail and recent developments
in the party including conduction of tribute programme for deceased leaders to
unite the party workers, decision taken by the state unit to continue
parivartan yatra and AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh’s state visit.
According
to information, Mahant also complained Gandhi against party MLA Ajit Jogi who
used the occasion of tribute programme (on June 6) to attack him, Digvijay
Singh and CLP leader Ravindra Choubey.
It
is learnt that Mahant had expressed his concerns that Jogi faction could play
spoilsport to hard work of state Congress in upcoming polls if it would not be
controlled.
Later,
Mahant met Shinde and urged him to ensure security of parivartan yatra in
coming days. Mahant said the party decided to continue the yata to give strong
reply to conspirators through democratic method. During the meeting, Shinde
told Mahant that his ministry had already givesn instructions to Chhattisgarh government
to provide adequate security to parivartan yatra.
