Directorate Sports and Youth Welfare has invited applications from eligible candidates for Dhyanchand and Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna (RGKR) awards till March 31.
The officials of the directorate informed that the Dhyanchand Award is the country’s highest award for lifetime achievement in sports and games. The award is named after the legendary Indian hockey player Dhyanchand. The award was initiated in 2002. The award carries a cash prize of Rs 1.50 lakh, a plaque and scroll of honour.
Similarly, the Government of India gives RGKR Award to the players for their outstanding performance in sports. This is India ’s highest honour given for achievement in sports. The award is named after former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. It carries a medal, a scroll of honour and a substantial cash component. As of 2004-05, when the award was last bestowed, the cash component stands at Rs 500000. The award was instituted in the year 1991-92 to supply the lack of a supreme national accolade in the field of sports.
The officials informed that the format of the application could be obtained from the sports sections of the offices of the SPs in all the districts as well as from Secretary Chhattisgarh Olympic Association (COA). The applications can be submitted to sports sections of the offices of the SPs in all the districts as well as to Directorate Sports and Youth Welfare at Raipur .
The applications can also be sent through COA or National Olympic Association to Under Secretary Union Sports and Youth Welfare Ministry, Room No 15, C wing, Shastri Bhawan, New Delhi by April 30, 2012.
