Corruption affecting PWD projects: Cong

Congress on Wednesday alleged that corruption was affected project of Public Works Department (PWD). The allegation was levelled by different opposition members while they were speaking against provision of budgetary demands for PWD, School Education, Tourism, Culture, Religious Trust and Religion department at Vidhan Sabha.
Participating in the debate, Congress legislator Shakrajeet Nayak the condition of roads, bridges and buildings being constructed by PWD were of inferior quality due to nexus between department’s officials and contractors.
He pointed that the PWD had road and building construction works. “The airports in different cities of the state are supposed to be built by the PWD but it has not taken any initiative in this direction and the projects are advancing at snail’s pace. Similarly, majority of railway overbridge projects have not been completed and the locals are facing inconvenience,” he said.
He asked the minister to control corruption as well as untrammelled officials in his department.
On School Education he said it was an irony that the teachers had been entrusted the job of constructing school buildings. “Now, whether the teacher will teach or do the job of a contractor,” he asked.
He indicated that meals were not being prepared on the basis of given menu under Mid-day Meal programme.
On Religious Trust and Religion department he said like Rajim kumbh, the government should equally heed and provide funds to other places of religious importance including Shivrinarayan, Giraudpuri, Bhoramdev, etc apart from melas and renowned programmes like Bastar Dussera.
Congress legislators Dr Premsai Singh Tekam, Dr Shiv Kumar Daharia, Devendra Bahadur Singh and Pratima Chandrakar too expressed their concern over ramshackle road conditions of the state and put demands for their respective legislative constituencies.
The BJP MLAs who participated in the debate were Devji Bhai Patel, Santosh Bafna, Bramhanand and Dr Krishnamurthy Bandhi.
