State’s debt increases to Rs 10902.12 crore


Raipur, March 20, 2012 

Chief Minister Raman Singh has informed that the state’s debt had increased to Rs 10902.12 crore as on January 31, 2012. Singh’s informed about the Chhattisgarh’s debt condition to the House in a written reply to a starred question of Congress legislator Dr Haridas Bhardwaj during ongoing budget session of Vidhan Sabha on Tuesday.
Bhardwaj sought information from the CM regarding state’s debts till January 31, 2012 along with the loan payment done by the government from 2001 to 2012. He also sought annual interest amount paid by the government from 2001-2012 along with the rate of interest (ROI) every year.
According to CM’s information, the year-wise loan (in crores) paid by the government is – 2001-02 – Rs 184, 2002-03 – Rs 413, 2003-04 – Rs 777.84, 2004-05 – Rs 1151.64, 2005-06 – Rs 443.55, 2006-07 – Rs 219.26, 2007-08 – 558.39, 2008-09 – Rs 489.36, 2009-10 – Rs 751.57, 2010-11 – Rs 690.87 and 2011-12 – Rs 536.18.
Similarly, the year-wise interest (in crores) paid by the government is – 2001-02 – Rs 618.68, 2002-03 – Rs 715.48, 2003-04 – Rs 892.38, 2004-05 – Rs 954.97, 2005-06 – Rs 813.47, 2006-07 – Rs 868.60, 2007-08 – 970.39, 2008-09 – Rs 903.12, 2009-10 – Rs 888.11 and 2010-11 – Rs 919.94.
The CM informed that the government paid interest at the rate of Rs 5.85 percent to 16.85 percent during this period under different categories of loan.
