Govt to build concrete platforms in procurement centres

House passes resolution tabled by Cong MLA unanimously

Raipur, Mar 16, 2012

The government will construct concrete platform in all the paddy procurement centres to store paddy safely. A non governmental resolution in this regard was tabled by Congress legislator Mahant Ramsundar Das during state Assembly’s budget session on Friday. The House passed the resolution unanimously.
Through his resolution, Das had also demanded construction of ahatas in all the procurement centres but Cooperative Minister Nankiram Kanwar said ahata construction was already underway in all the centres, hence he would accept the demand of concrete platforms.
Das pointed that the procurement centres of the state lacked proper storage and safety facilities and therefore large amount of paddy was being stored in open ground. “When it rains, the paddy stored in open gets damaged and hence the government as farmers incur huge loss,” he said.
Congress MLA Pratima Chandrakar also supported the resolution and said considering unexpected rains, the government should quickly construct platforms and ahatas to keep paddy stock safe.
The BJP legislator Dr Krishnamurthy Bandhi too supported the resolution and said the government should also improve the condition of roads going to procurement centres. “The condition of majority of roads in rural areas is worse and hence the farmers face problem in transporting their crops to the centres,” he said.
Kanwar said the government was alert regarding safety of paddy in procurement centres and had thus constructing platforms in all the centres in phased manner. However, he said respecting sentiments and concern of Das for farmers, he accept his demand of concrete platform construction in all centres.
