The Youth Congress (YC) on Tuesday gheraoed office of the Food department based at Collectorate premises in protest of unavailability of ration stock in fair price shops. “Ration mafias are steering the fair price shops and hence the eligible beneficiaries do not get ration,” said YC’s Raipur South Vidhan Sabha general secretary Sandeep Tiwari.
He alleged that the ration meant for the cardholders were being sold in the market by the ration mafias.
“Black marketing of ration provided to the fair price shops under public distribution system (PDS) by the government has increased during BJP’s regime. This is happening because majority of the fair price shop operators are BJP supporters,” Tiwari said.
He pointed that people did not get ration before holi because the stocks were exhausted in fair price shops. “How will the middle class people celebrate any festival if they would not get ration at affordable rates? The government surely deserves the blame for depriving people from holi celebrations,” he added.
The YC members warned the Food department of taking up the issue is ‘no-stock condition in fair price shops’ to the streets through aggressive agitation if necessary measures would not be taken to check the black marketing of ration.
On the occasion, Tiwari was accompanied by Bhavesh Shukla, Akash Sharma, Zafar Iqbal, Azhar Rahman, Ujjwal Kaushik, Wasim Quasif, Vikky Dongre, Samir Bhatt, Akhilesh Joshi, Anil Yadav, Dhananjay Tomar, Prateek Tiwari, Benjo Sharma, Ahmad, etc.
