Kanwar to Cong: Stop provoking agitators

Raipur, March 21, 2012

Home, Jail and Cooperative Minister Nankiram Kanwar on Wednesday trained his guns at Congress on recent police lathicharge on tribals while they were on way to gherao Vidhan Sabha terming the entire incident an outcome of opposition party’s provocation to the agitators.
“The Congress should stop instigating agitators during rallies as the incidents like police lathicharge are bound to occur if the mob gets violent,” Kanwar said during his address on budgetary demands for Home, Jail and Cooperative departments at Vidhan Sabha.
Objecting Kanwar’s remark, the Congress legislator Amarjeet Bhagat and Shakrajeet defended their party and said the minister should not make such allegation against the opposition without any evidence.
The minister again hit the opposition on the issues it raises in the House. “The Congress repeats Meena Khalkhon case too often despite the government gave Rs two lakh compensation to her family members,” he said.
Bhagat said the minister should clarify whether the government considers Khalkhon as naxal or not. “If the government has given compensation to Khalkhon’s family despite considering her Maoist then the minister should also disclose other naxal families that have received similar compensation,” he said.
On minister’s information to the House that government had succeeded in checking naxal incidents, Bhagat reminded the former about his claim that his government would uproot Maoists in six months. Kanwar quipped that it would only happen when the Congress will stop supporting naxals.
Similarly, when Kanwar praised his government for taking initiative for deaddiction, Congress MLA Dharmjeet Singh reminded him of Chief Minister Raman Singh’s announcement that ‘liquor shops will not be opened in areas having population less than 2500’ and said Ratanpur being religious place and befitting government’s scarcely populated bracket had liquor shop which should be closed down immediately.
