Police arrested large number of Congress, Youth
Congress (YC) and Youth INTUC members while they were protesting during public
hearing organised by Chhattisgarh State Electricity Regulatory Commission
(CSERC) on proposed hike in power tariff at Dagania-based headquarters of power
companies on Friday. After sometime, all the agitators were released
unconditionally.
The Congress and its frontal organisations - YC and
Youth INYUC demonstrated aggressively at public hearing and demanded from the CSERC
to drop the idea of hiking power tariff.
The PCC general secretary Ramesh Warlyani, DCC Raipur
Urban president Inderchand Dhariwal and RMC Mayor Kiranmayi Nayak were prominently
present during the public hearing.
Warlyani and Dhariwal led the demonstrating Congress
workers and demanded from the CSERC officials to revoke the proposal of power
tariff hike in favour of consumers.
On the occasion, the president of YC’s Raipur Lok
Sabha Vinod Tiwari alleged that the proposed power tariff hike is intended to
benefit large industrial houses. “The domestic power tariff will be hiked by
61-108% while that of commercial tariff for large industrial houses will be
hiked by 35-56%,” he elaborated.
While the president of Raipur North Sunil Kukreja held
the government responsible for loss of the power companies. “The government
wanted to compensate the loss by shifting the financial burden on the
consumers,” he said.
Similarly, the state president of Youth INTUC Aijaz
Dhebar alleged that the police lathicharged on him and other members of the
organisation when they reached at public hearing to protest proposed power
hike. “On the occasion, several police personnel were present in civil dress and
they started beating us when we reached there,” he charged.
Both YC and Youth INTUC warned the government of
launching massive protest movement against it if the power tariff would be
hiked.
CM reluctant in giving relief to public: Patel
Launching scathing attack against Chief Minister Raman
Singh on proposed power tariff hike by Chhattisgarh State Electricity
Regulatory Commission (CSERC), PCC president Nandkumar said the CM himself was
reluctant in giving relief to the common man despite keeping the Energy
department with him. Condemning arrest of Youth Congress (YC) members during
CSERC’s public hearing, he said the CM should understand that India follows
democratic system and he was not supposed to adopt tyrannical attitude towards
people protesting peacefully. He said the proposed power hike is illogical and
imposition on public.
