BJP cannot disavow lathicharge on tribals: Cong

Raipur, May 03, 2012

Reacting sharply on Chief Minister Raman Singh’s remark that Congress was misleading people on reservation and lathicharge on tribals, the PCC spokesperson Sushil Anand Shukla said the BJP could not disavow it. “In fact, the issue of quota system and lathicharge on tribals are taints on the ruling party that appeared with CM’s statement,” said Shukla.
“It was BJP which misled tribals on the name of reservation and when they took out rally for their Constitutional right, they were lathicharged ruthlessly,” he said.
He alleged that the government deliberately made such proposal which was likely to be stayed by the court.
“The government had proposed 32% quota for tribals, 12 for scheduled caste and 14 for backward class. While making this proposal, it was well aware that Constitutionally, the total quota should not exceed 50%,” he said.
“The government actually never intend to give 32% reservation to the tribals and it was only pretending to do so. This is the habit of the ruling party which has betrayed the tribals on the name of distributing jersey cow and pair of bullocks,” he said.
He charged that the BJP managed to come into power twice on the basis of Assembly seats it got in Bastar division but ignored the region’s development. “There is no government in Bastar. The region still lacks basic facilities like water, electricity, health, employment, etc. While peace and security is a distant dream for Bastarians,” he said.
He said Centre had given special package to Chhattisgarh for development in tribal region including naxal-hit areas. “The package is meant to effectively implement Centrally-sponsored schemes like MNREGA, PMGSY, National Rural Health Mission, rural drinking water scheme, Janani Suraksha Yojna, etc but the government have qualified to papers,” he added.
He pointed that even the BJPians had started speaking against own government’s misdeeds.
“While the tribal BJP MPs Murari Lal Singh and Sohan Potai raise issue of terror created by administrative mafia, the senior BJP leader and MP Dilip Singh Judeo too had remarked over administrative terrorism. Another senior BJP leader Rajaram Todem says that tribals are not safe in Chhattisgarh. Similarly, the tribal BJP legislator Jageshwar Ram Bhagat had staged dharna against Raman Singh government’s administrative terrorism. Still, the CM is silent on the objections of his own partymen,” Shukla said.
