With Sukma Collector Alex Paul Menon’s 12-day hostage drama ending with his release on May 2, one of the interlocutors representing Maoists –BD Sharma jumped to clarify that ‘no hidden agreement’ was done between state government and naxals to free the abducted official. Sharma’s clarifications came just after the government rubbished off speculations that it had ‘big secret deal’ with the ultras to get back Menon.
Sharma, while talking to the media persons at New Circuit House on Friday, said it was the first time that the government and extremists held talks though the interlocutors in such a fashion and the latter agreed to release the hostage.
When pointed that Congress was sceptic over the entire matter and had taken different inference from the highly dramatic outcome, Sharma maintained that everything happened explicitly and there was no need to read anything between the lines.
Asked his take over Chief Minister Raman Singh’s statement that he was ready to go alone to Bastar to talk to naxals if the latter would com forward for dialogue to resolve their problems, Sharma said he was not aware of such statement.
“According to my knowledge, the government has not yet hinted that it wanted dialogue to solve naxalism. However, if the CM has given such statement then he is free to do so,” he added.
He indicated that the problems and grievances of the tribals persist despite government’s claims of development. He said the Bastarians have every right to choose the method of development in their region. “No Tata or any other company can establish there without consent of the locals,” he added.
Asked whether he regretted killing of the two security personnel accompanying abducted Collector by the Maoists, Sharma generalised the answer and said he always prioritises human beings than law.
