Cong cooperative panel reviews poll process

Raipur, May 25, 2012

To review the process of ongoing cooperative polls, the meting of expanded cooperative committee of Congress was held at Congress Bhawan on Friday. The meeting was attended by committee convenor Baijnath Chandrakar, members –Domendra Bhediya, Ramlal Bhardwaj, Vinod Tiwari, Jagdish Mehar, Harish Tiwari along with Kurud legislator Lekhram Sahu and party spokesperson Shailesh Nitin Trivedi.
The committee said that the party got anticipated results in the first phase of polls on the basis of its awareness campaign among the farmers.
“Shocked by Congress performance, the BJP government is now ignoring rules of the cooperative polls,” the Congmen alleged.
“On May 24, 2012, the polling of more than 90 committees was postponed because ballot papers had not been sent to polling centres. To mislead the voters, polling was started at 11 am instead of 7 am. Therefore, many voters reached the polling centres at morning and returned without casting their vote. The government actually did not want large turnouts in cooperative polls,” they charged.
“In some places, nomination papers have been changed. In this connection, the villagers have registered their complaints to district cooperative president but no action had been taken by far,” they said.
“Similarly, one poll symbol was given to two candidates in places like Masturi. This was deliberate error to confuse the voters. This triggered brawl in Loharsi where eventually poll was postponed,” they informed.
The committee pointed that irregularities continue to surface in cooperative polls as government is trying to influence the entire election process. “The biggest example of mismanagement in cooperative polls is uncontrolled officials as three assistant registrars have been suspended on charges of irregularities by far,” the committee said.
Notably, a delegation of Congress cooperative committee had submitted a memorandum to the registrar Cooperative and urged to ensure conduction of transparent elections.
