CM taking political benefit of jawans’ sacrifice: Cong

Raipur, May 05, 2012

Congress on Saturday dubbed the Chief Minister Raman Singh’s announcement of Rs 25 lakh cash compensation to the survivors of two jawans who got killed while trying to prevent Maoists to abduct Sukma Collector Alex Paul Menon as sheer attempt to take political advantage of the situation.
“The CM should clarify if his government is giving anything additional to the families of martyred jawans other than the predefined compensation packages for them. If not, then why he is so obstreperously declaring the compensation before the national media at New Delhi,” asked PCC president Nandkumar Patel.
He said there was no surprise why the CM made a delayed announcement for martyred jawans. “While the hostage drama was on, for almost 12 days the CM did not utter any word for the two jawans. He should clarify why he took such an ample time and chose the national platform instead of declaring the compensation at state,” said Patel.
Charging that the government did not value the sacrifice of the two jawans, Patel further sought clarification from the CM regarding no representation from his Cabinet during the funeral of both the martyrs.
“While one jawan belonged to Jashpur district, the other hailed from Nagri (Dhamtari district). The CM should have sent his ministers to pay tribute to the jawans during their funeral. On the other hand, we paid respect to both the martyrs by sending our representatives,” Patel said.
