Congress on Friday asked state government to
reduce value added tax (VAT) on petrol to give relief to the people. Reacting
on Chief Minister’s statement that VAT reduction would barely give comfort to
the public, former Congress president Dhanendra Sahu and party spokesperson
Shailesh Nitin Trivedi said the CM was misleading people.
“The state government imposes 25 percent VAT on petrol
and diesel. Currently the petrol price is Rs 75.28 out of which the government
imposes Rs 15.06 as VAT. Similarly, the diesel price is Rs 51.04 out of which
VAT imposed is Rs 11.21. Now, if the VAT will be reduces, the petrol and diesel
prices will certainly come down. Hence, the government should stop deceiving
people and must take steps in their favour,” the Congmen said.
They said the CM, instead of criticising the Centre on
petrol price hike, should prove that his party is not anti-people by reducing
VAT.
