Alleging that Mandir Hasaud-based Monnet Ispat was polluting its ambience by not following environmental norms and ignoring locals during recruitments, the members of Youth Congress (YC) and NSUI along with large number of villagers staged massive dharna before Monnet Ispat based at Mandir Hasaud on Tuesday.
Addressing the dharna, YC leader Amit Jogi said Congress had always struggled against repressive and anti-people policies and would continue its movement in future too.
He said it was unfortunate that the state youth and farmers were devoid of their basic rights under BJP regime and whenever they tried to raise voice against the government in that regard, they were lathicharged by police.
The PCC secretary Yogesh Tiwari alleged that Monnet Ispat management had made several promises to the locals but in 15 years, none were fulfilled.
He said while agricultural lands around Monnet Ispat had damaged due to pollution, the local residents too were suffering from different diseases caused by air-pollution.
“Surprisingly, the Raman Singh-government is still hibernating and is least bothered about the problems of Mandir Hasaud residents,” he added.
On the occasion, the activists continuously shouted slogans against Monnet Ispat management and the government and warned of launching aggressive movement against the industrial unit in future.
The dharna programme was attended by Congress MLA Rudra Kumar Guru, state YC president Uttam Vasudev, YC’s Raipur Lok Sabha president Vinod Tiwari, NSUI state vice president Subodh Haritwal, Gulzeb Ahmed, Alok Chandrakar, Khileshwar Dewangan, Govind Sethi, Swatantra Agrawal, etc.
