The Congress panchayat representatives on Friday complained to party’s national general secretary that the state government was adopting biased attitude towards them and consequently the development in their respective regions had been hampered. Their complaint came while Gandhi was interacting with them at Rajkumar College (RKC) premises.
About 18-20 representatives got opportunity to speak during their talks with Gandhi which stretched to about one and a half hour. The representatives said the panchayati raj system in Chhattisgarh had failed because the government was apathetic.
The representatives said bureaucracy dominates panchayati raj system in the state and hence the development is missing in Congress stronghold areas.
They also complained of misuse of funds of Central schemes by the BJP government. They further said that Chief Minister Raman Singh claims that the Central schemes have been launched by his government.
They said Centre should take stern action against the state government for misleading people and not using funds meant for specific schemes.
In response, Gandhi said every work could not be done from New Delhi . “Rather, our party should become strong enough to defeat the BJP in next Assembly elections and give relief to the people by working for them,” he said.
On the occasion, the representatives raised issue of forcible land acquisition by the government and said the ruling BJP was taking such steps to benefit the industrialists and capitalists.
They also expressed their concern over reducing crop area of the state due to government’s apathy towards agriculture sector and increasing inclination towards industrialisation.
