Former leader of opposition in State
Assembly Mahendra Karma has flayed Chief Minister Raman Singh for disowning
salva judum. “It is really upsetting that the CM has refused to acknowledge the
existence of salva judum when everybody knows that it is a state-owned
movement. It seems the Sukma Collector’s abduction incident has deeply affected
the CM and he still looks frightened,” Karma said.
He said the CM’s remark over salva judum had hurt
large number of tribals who are linked to this anti-naxal movement.
“These tribals are presently residing in base camps
with no radical facilities. Now, with the CM disowning salva judum, they fear
that the government would also list the security arrangements from the base
camps,” Karma said.
“The BJP government had been taking the credit salva
judum by far but after fulfilment of its political objective, it simply denied
to acknowledge the people involved with the movement. This is sheer
opportunistic attitude,” he said.
He further criticised the government for posing
silence over consistent killing of salva judum workers by Maoists.
He said the movement was going in the right direction,
but could not pick pace as the government never displayed seriousness in consolidating
it.
“In fact, the government failed to respond equally
strongly the war strategic waged by the naxals. At regular intervals, the
extremists continue to attack the police forces and common people under a
planned strategy which consequently put the government in back foot. Hence, it
indirectly prevented expansion of salva judum,” he said.
Karma held the CM responsible for debilitating salva
judum and said the movement could have potentially become an effective tool to
deal naxalism but the government did not show the willpower.
