Congress Sewa Dal workers observed birth anniversary of the founder member of their organisation Dr Narayan Subba Rao Hardikar at Congress Bhawan on Monday.
On the occasion, the state Sewa Dal’s chief organiser Ashok Raj Ahuja said Hardikar formed Hindustani Sewa Dal on December 23, 1923 with an objective to help Congress in struggling for the freedom of the country.
Ahuja informed that Hardikar also participated in the freedom movement of Mahatma Gandhi. “In 1931, Hindustani Sewa Dal merged in Congress and became Sewa Dal. Former Prime Minister Pt Jawaharlal Nehru became first president of Congress Sewa Dal,” he said.
“After independence, Hardikar dedicated his life on social service. With an aim to provide free-of-cost health facilities to the poor he constructed Karnataka Help Institute at Ghatprabha (Karnataka). The institute sprawls in about 147 acres of land and is still serving the poor,” he informed.
On the occasion of Hardikar’s birth anniversary, the Sewa Dal members pledged to dethrone ruling BJP in next Assembly elections.
The Sewa Dal members who were present on the occasion were Sayed Israel, Shyam Bawne, Tikendra Baghel, Ashok Ratre, Chatur Singh Jagat, Kriparam Sahu, Fagu Ram Sonwani, Bhola Kashyap, Karan Das, Meghnath Sahu, Netram Sonwani, Sheikh Ahmed, Narayan Ratre, Narayan Joshi, Ramchandra Dheere, Dharam Kurre, Chinta Devi, Kera Banjare, Phool Bai Dhruv, Parvati Manikpuri, Bhuri Bai Satnami, Radha Yadav, Dashoda Yadav, Ramsheela Sahu, Lachhan Bai Yadav, etc.
