Police turned capital traffic into experimental lab: Cong

Raipur, January 19, 2013

Congress on Saturday alleged that the police administration has turned the capital traffic into experimental laboratory. “The police, in its caprice, are making frequent changes in capital traffic system and causing inconvenience to the motorists,” said Congress spokesperson Sushil Anand Shukla.

He said the Congress was not just concerned of capital’s traffic system, but of other cities in the state too. “What are these responsible law makers doing all the time despite being aware of mismanaged traffic in the cities,” asked Shukla.

“Traffic bottlenecks have become order of the day in the capital city. The vehicles with beacon lights are allowed to enter the restricted zones while the common motorists are fined heavily. The police never take public inputs to improve the traffic condition,” he indicated.

He said the timings of traffic signals at different road intersections of Raipur too were set without considering the traffic flow. He pointed that signal timings at Mahila Thana chowk, Jaistambh chowk, Fafadih chowk, Shastri chowk, Shankar Nagar chowk, Lodhipara chowk and Tatyapara chowk needed to reset according to vehicular pressure on roads.

He said the new road linked to Shastri chowk via Mantralaya too causes frequent gridlocks at the road intersection.

“Similarly, snarl-ups in Pandri from cloth market turning to bus stand turning and inside the bus stand area, Krishi Upaj Mandi turning at Fafaidh,  City Kotwali, Station chowk and other parts of the city could be seen throughout the day,” he said.

“It is really disappointing that in 12 years, the state government and police administration could not make effective traffic plan for Raipur city,” he said.
