District Congress Committee (DCC) Raipur Urban has launched signature campaign for establishment of High Court (HC) bench at Raipur. “We are getting massive support from the people,” said DCC Raipur Urban president Inderchand Dhariwal after conducting signature drive at Kalibadi chowk on Tuesday.
He informed that about 4200 people signed in favour of HC bench at Raipur. “The Jaswant Singh commission recommends opening of HC bench in every state capital. In India, the state capitals either have HC or the bench, but Raipur does not have any. With no bench at Raipur, even the government is spending over Rs 50 crore annually for legal proceedings pertaining to its departments at Bilaspur HC,” Dhariwal said.
Under its signature drive, the Congmen will seek public favour for HC bench at Shastri chowk from 12-2 pm on February, he informed.
