Jogi faction succeeds in displaying power again

Raipur, February 06, 2013

The NSUI’s eight-day ‘nari asmita bachao’ padyatra, taken out in protest of Kanker rape incident, concluded peacefully after its rally was addressed by senior Congress leaders at fire brigade chowk on Wednesday.

After rally, the NSUI’s 25-member delegation led by organisation’s national president Choudhary and Amit Jogi submitted memorandum to Governor Shekhar Dutt regarding Kanker rape incident and rising atrocities against women in Chhattisgarh.

The NSUI padyatra reached Raipur from Devpuri at about 2:30 pm. The padyatra culminated in the form of a massive rally at fire brigade chowk where Congress leaders including AICC secretary and Chhattisgarh Congress incharge Bhakt Charandas, former union tourism minister Subodh Kant Sahay, PCC president Nandkumar Patel and senior party MLA Ajit Jogi addressed the NSUI members.

In his address, Subodh Kant Sahay said it was unfortunate that the state government was unmoved by the shocking incident like Kanker rape. He said the Congress and its frontal organisations would continue to fight for justice of the rape victims in future.

Praising Ajit Jogi, Sahay said it was the Jogi government’s roadmap for development on the basis of which the Raman Singh government was claiming success presently. He termed Jogi as leader with strong magnetic power. He used similar words for state Congress head Nandkumar Patel too.

Ajit Jogi in his address said the Congress would continue its struggle for people in future. He said the BJP government would use money power to regain power in the state but the Congress would defeat it in next assembly polls.

Patel said the principal opposition in the state would keep fighting for justice of rape victims in state.

Earlier, the padyatra was welcomed at various locations by different factions of NSUI prominently including the Jogi camp and the PCC’s organisational camp.

The Jogi camp, however, managed to display its power again through the eight-day padyatra. On the concluding day too, Ajit Jogi’s supporters led by Yogesh Tiwari were wearing his mask during rally.

The state NSUI vice president Subodh Haritwal informed that on delegation’s request, Governor Shekhar Dutt assured it of directing state government to take stern action against rapists and to take effective measures to check women atrocities.

Haritwal said the governor termed the Kanker rape incident shocking. The delegation also urged the Governor to visit girls’ hostel at village Jhaliyamari under Narharpur block (Kanker district) where the incident happened.

Through memorandum, the NSUI prominently demanded constitution of high-level committee to inspect hostels in Chhattisgarh to bring forth rape incidents like Kanker and to provide justice to rape victims.
