Govt to form committee to monitor cataract operations

To prevent iteration of incidents like Balod eye camp where several patients lost their eyesight after undergoing cataract operation, state government has decided to constitute a committee that will monitor cataract surgeries. A directive in this regard was issued by health minister Amar Agrawal while he was reviewing his department’s programmes during a meeting at health directorate on Thursday. 

The committee will consist of both technical and non-technical persons. The job of the panel will be to keep an eye whether the cataract operations are being conducted according to given norms or not.

While reviewing national programme for prevention and control of cancer and diabetes Agrawal informed that the government would soon open a superspecialty hospital for endocrinology department to for cancer and diabetic patients.  

He instructed the officials to disburse payments to beneficiaries under Janani Suraksha Yojna through cheque from April 1, 2013. 

He said the government would prepare concrete plan to get rid of malnutrition cases. The officials informed the minister that currently 46 nutrition rehabilitation centres were being operated across the state and about 2691 malnourished children had undergone treatment in such centres till December 2012.

On family government’s planning programme, the officials informed that about 81266 vasectomy and tubectomy surgeries had been done in the current financial year. 

Agrawal also took stock of institutional delivery in rural pockets and progress of basic infrastructure of National Rural Health Mission. He asked the officials to commence Sanjeevni 108 ambulance facility in Koyalibeda under Kanker district. 

On school health check-up programme, the officials informed that health camps in 37717 schools had been organised in the current fiscal and medicines had been distributed to those students who were found facing any health problem. 

Agrawal said to make the programme more effective, the health improvement of the students should be monitored by preparing a database and taking regular feedback from them. The officials told the minister that health problems occurred in students because they fail to maintain cleanliness. Agrawal emphasised on making students aware of benefits of cleanliness.

The meeting was attended by principal secretary health Ajay Singh, commissioner health services Pratap Singh and director health services Dr Kamalpreet Singh.
