Price rise due to UPA’s neoliberal economic policies: Sen

Raipur, January 23, 2013

MP and national general secretary of Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) Tapan Sen has held UPA government’s neoliberal economic policies responsible for price rise in India. Sen, who was addressing massive gathering of labourers during inauguration of CITU’s fourth state convention at Gandhi Maidan on Wednesday, said the rising inflation was artificial and the Centre had made no attempt to give relief to common man.

“If the UPA government really wants to bring down inflation then it should not draw a line between BPL and APL families. Instead, it must make available the 600 lakh tonne foodgrains to everybody through fair price shops,” he said.

He alleged that the UPA government was exploiting over one crore workers engaged in its different schemes like Aanganbadi, Mid-day meal, Asha and Mitanin, etc. “These workers receive very low stipend. The Centre should at least provide them salary, social security and basic facilities,” he said.

He felt that the labourers needed to come forward and hold the reins of democracy to save the country.

Hitting the UPA government for bringing foreign direct investment (FDI) in retail, he said the people would reply it strongly in upcoming general elections.

He appealed to workers to make successful the 48-hour national general strike called by all trade unions against UPA’s neoliberal economic policies on February 20-21.

On the occasion were also present CITU national vice president Sukomal Sen and state CITU president MK Chanda.

In February 24 and 25, the CITU will organise a special session that would be participated by over 200 delegates and observers. The objective of the session will be to discuss over challenges appearing before labour movements and strategy to beef up CITU.
