The NSUI members led by their national president Rohit Choudhary will take out padyatra in protest of Kanker rape incident from Wednesday.
Choudhary, who reached state capital on Tuesday, informed scribes that the padyatra would commence from Kanker on Wednesday. Meanwhile, a team of NSUI leaders will also meet the family members of rape victims, he said.
The NSUI will conclude its 142 km padyatra at Raipur by submitting memorandum to Governor Shekhar Dutt on February 6, he said.
Choudhary clarified that the NSUI was not interested in politicising the rape incident but simply want justice for the rape victims.
“The rape of tribal girls at ashram school was is a grave matter. The NSUI will continue its struggle to obtain justice for rape victims,” he said.
On the occasion, the YC’s national general secretary Vikas Upadhyay said that condition of all ashram schools of the state resembled that of village Jhaliyamari where tribal girls were raped.
The NSUI state vice president Subodh Haritwal claimed that the girls in 36 out of 41 ashram schools were being physically abused.
Hariprasada to join padyatra on Jan 31
AICC general secretary and state Congress incharge BK Hariprasada will participate in the NSUI’s padyatra on January 31. The NSUI has also invited a couple of Congress MPs including Dipender Singh Hudda, Mamta Sharma to participate in the padyatra. According to information, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi has not yet given his consent pertaining to joining padyatra.
