Congress has alleged of scam worth Rs 200 crore in auctioning of tendu
leaves. “As compared to previous year’s biding rate, the Rajya Laghu Vanopaj
Sangh (RLVS) accepted much lower rate this year during tendering for tendu
leaves auction. Certainly, the government is engrossed in collecting poll funds
through such scams,” charged PCC general secretary Devvrat Singh and senior
Congress leader Satyanarayan Sharma while interacting with scribes at Congress
Bhawan on Tuesday.
“The
RLVS had invited bids for tendu leaves auction on January 10, 29 and Febraury
11 2013. However, it accepted lower rate quoted by a specific bidder in just
two rounds. The sangh’s decision dented government exchequer by Rs 200 crore. If
the RLVS had intended to maintain transparency, it would have fixed government
rate before tendering process,” they said.
“Now,
since the government incurred Rs 200 crore loss, the tribals are less likely to
get bonus this time,” they said.
The
duo suggested that the government revenue could shoot up if it would adopt open
auctioning process for tendu leaves like liquor. They said the government
should cancel the tenders and go for open bidding system.
They
also objected over prolonged posting of AK Singh as managing director of RLVS
for 11 years terming his role as dubious in tendering process.
They
said the Congress would raise the issue both in upcoming assembly session and in
streets. “If needed, the Congress will take the issue to court,” they added.
Alleging
that the government was exploiting tribals and benefiting contractors, they
demanded high level probe into Rs 200 scam.
